I began my career in Makeup in 1999. Way before social media was a thing. Back then an emerging artist had to do ground work like, find photographers, models and wardrobe stylists to collaborate with. We had to build portfolio’s back then, we had to shop them. We prayed that we’d find reps like agents or managers who’d help us find work. Then we’d have to pay them. It’s wasn’t easy. My grind led me to @marcusgblassingame he was the editor of Today’s Black Men Magazine at the time. Most of my tear sheets came from BM mag. I am forever grateful to him for believing in me. He hired me to do a calendar shoot with a young model. Her name was Melyssa Ford. After one makeup session with her, she looked at me and said “I’m going to do big things, if you’re willing to rock with me I’m going to take you everywhere I go” I did l, and she did. I was her personal MUA for ten years. Travelled the country with her, we hit up the islands more times than I can count. When she was offered the opportunity to host her first TV show, she insisted that I do her makeup, so #betnetworks hired me… I will never forget our journey. When I heard that she was involved in a near fatal accident… I was beside myself… I know that she’s okay but @melyssaford my friend, you are in my prayers 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
