Stop doing it! More specifically, the estate of Prince has told Donald Trump and his reps to stop using “Purple Rain” at his rallies.
Here’s the deal. Thursday night, Prince’s half-brother (Omarr Baker) went to Twitter and posted this message on behalf of Prince’s estate:
“The Prince Estate has never given permission to President Trump or The White House to use Prince’s songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately.”
A spokesperson for the estate told the AP a request had been made to the President to discontinue use of the song. A White House spokesperson referred questions on the topic to the campaign.
Trump played “Purple Rain” at his rally last week in South Haven, Mississippi. It’s frequently played at his rallies … and it’s not the first time 45’s been told to stop.
Steven Tyler’s lawyer fired off cease and desist letters after Trump played several of his songs, including “Livin’ on the Edge.”
For some reason, Trump has been playing the song at his rallies, including last week in Southaven, Mississippi.
Rather than include a video of the song playing at the campaign, please enjoy this iconic performance by the man himself.
