LeToya Luckett has it all: the flawless face, acting chops and a voice that rounded out Destiny’s Child in their heyday. Since leaving the group, she’s created an impressive solo career that’s landed her on multiple television shows like VH1′s “Single Ladies.” LeToya brings a sense of humor and confidence to her fierce character Felicia on the scripted drama, but don’t think she’s done with music, she’s currently working on her next album and dropping a buzz track next week!

We caught up with singer-turned-actress and picked her gorgeous brain about the VH1 role, former band mate LaTavia Roberson’s tell-all and that viral vine of Destiny’s Child that kept us laughing for days!

HelloBeautiful: Your character on “Single Ladies” is fierce. How are you alike in personalities?

LeToya Luckett: Felicia is a piece of work. I’m not as ice cold as her. I’m a little more laid back, but I do love her confidence. I am confident like her and, I will say this, I became more confident while playing her. We both have our own companies. I had my own store for 10 years, she has her own management company, we both love fashion.

HB: How did you land the role? Did you audition?

LL: Absolutely. I went in and auditioned for one of the other roles and I came out with that one. I just feel like it’s so fit for me to have this role because, I have to admit when I first read her, I was like, “she reads a little older, I don’t know how I’m gonna play this.” It reminded me of “The Devil Wears Prada” and I kept seeing Meryl Streep. I kept thinking, “how do I make her young, funny, but still strong and powerful? And make people respect her?” But, put a little piece of me in it. I did a little bit of that and I wanted to throw a little comedy in it, so people wouldn’t hate her.

HB: You said you were like “Beyonce’s bodyguard.” What were your thoughts on her Grammy performance?

LL: I just love the woman that Beyonce is becoming. I think that she’s one of the greatest entertainers of our time and the fact that she can not only hold that position, but also be somebody’s momma and somebody’s wife at the same time. People say what they want to and with every positive, there’s going to be some negative and that’s just what it is. I think that she was sharing a moment with her husband. But, people have always wanted to see them in that light. They’ve always been secretive and protective of their relationship and I love them for that because it allowed them to build that wonderful foundation that every relationship needs and she finally gave you a piece of who they are. And, that surprised me, but I thought it was beautiful and did you see that after baby body?

What is your favorite Destiny’s Child memory?

LL: I think it was the first time we heard our song on the radio and the way we clowned out around the house. It wasn’t “No, No No,” it was a song called “Killing Time” and it was on our radio station in Houston on the “Quiet Storm.” We felt like we had arrived, but we really had gotten no where [laughs]. It was just so awesome to hear your work finally hit the airwaves.

HB: How did you react to hearing about LaTavia’s new book?

LL: I really don’t know much of what the book is about, but I feel like if she wants to share her experience, then that’s something that she wants to do. I can’t make any judgement. To experience what we did in that group, both negative and positive that it was something that none of us will ever forget or regret. I don’t know her feelings, but we will all find out very soon.

HB: There was this GIF that went around of an old Destiny’s Child interview where Kelly called herself the second lead of the group and Beyonce coughed and people took it as her throwing shade. Thoughts?

LL: It was crazy because somebody was sending me texts about that too. Whenever you go back and look, we all just had funny facial expressions and it was such a funny moment. I don’t think for one second that Bey was trying to be shady. What Kelly said was true and this is what made the group so great. Everybody knew how to play their positions. It was known that Bey was first lead, it was known that Kelly was first lead. I don’t know why our facial expressions went that way. I think we were all just having a funny moment or maybe we were all tired. I don’t know [laughs]. It was so long ago and it was so funny to watch, I have to admit.

HB: When will you be releasing new music?

LL: Here’s a little secret. I did a song with single ladies in mind, called “Don’t Make Me Wait,” and they asked for it to be a part of one of the episodes. It just so happens to be on my album too, which is titled “Unproven” which will be released sometime this year. So, look for it February 10th, on “Single Ladies” and you will be able to download that on iTunes that day.
