When we say New Orleans is one of our favorite American cities, we mean it sincerely — and let’s just be honest, we’re mostly obsessed with The Big Easy because of the amazing cuisine that floods the streets of The French Quarter with fragrance and flavor. HelloBeautiful sent the amazing Chef Huda, winner of Cutthroat Kitchen and founder of Pretty & Delicious to New Orleans in search of some of the most delicious traditional ‘nawlins dishes, and of course, that meant searching for the perfect Po’ Boy.

This traditional sandwich, which is actually properly called a ‘Poor Boy’ but more often affectionately called ‘Po’ Boy,’ is a traditional New Orleans sandwich that originated during the Great Depression. Expensive ingredients like shrimp, scallops, and other local seafood delicacies, are tossed onto a french baguette, then covered with mayo, lettuce and tomato. During the Depression, this was a flavorful dish that was both filling and affordable. Today it’s a local favorite, and while it’s been duplicated all over the country, you’ll never find a Po’Boys quite as delicious as you’ll find in NOLA.

Check out the video above as Chef Kenny of the famed New Orleans restaurant Oceana teaches Chef Huda how to duplicate his version of this classic recipe. You’ll be surprised how simple it is and it’s a perfect addition for your kitchen table. We promise it’s soooooo yummy!
