According to blackmediascoop.com the creator of the website “For Brown Girls” and the “Dark Skin, Red Lips Project”, Karyn Washington,  has died at the age of 22 of an apparent suicide.

Karyn, who dedicated herself to the uplifting of dark-skinned black girls and women, and worked so that they would have a sense of well-being, was struggling with depression and mental illness, and was unable to extend the love she gave to others to herself.

One of the saddest parts of this story is the fact that we still struggle as a community with Colorism.  The light skin vs dark skin battle is still very real in our community,  so many of us have self esteem issues because of the color of our skin and the question that we need to ask ourselves is: When are we going to stop attacking our brothers and sisters about the complexion of their skin?
