Remember when controversial filmmaker Spike Lee announced he launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a new film, Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus? Well, he’s finally released the trailer for it! Lee raised approximately $1,250,000, as he sought advice from the co-founders of Kickstarter on how to efficiently gain proceeds: “They said the two reasons that people fail on Kickstarter is that they don’t have a realistic idea of how much money they can raise or how long it will take to raise that. I had a higher number and they said, ‘Look Spike you should be a little more conservative’ and I’m very grateful they gave me that advice.”

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus is a remake of the 1973 cult horror film Ganja & Hess by Bill Gunn, who also starred in it. It was the Twilight of its time. Gunn’s character betrays his boss and archaeologist Dr. Hess Green by stabbing him with a cursed dagger. Green becomes a vampire that falls for Gunn’s widow Ganja, and soon his own secrets start to unravel. Da Sweet Blood of Jesus retains the core of the original story.

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus stars Rami Malek, Elvis Nolasco, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Joie Lee, Felicia “Snoop” Pearson (of HBO’s The Wire) and Jeni Perillo and will be in theaters and on demand February 13, 2015. Will you be watching?
