Out of all the outlandish things The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kenya Moore has been accused of and actually did (just watch her “Gone With The Wind Fabulous” video), this one is beyond tasteless even for her. Social media was set on fire yesterday after a cast photo of the RHOA ladies appeared over Atlanta. Now the picture wasn’t the problem for people, the caption sparked series outrage when the words, “Black Wives Matter” was written in bold. The disgusting so-called “ad” is a rip-off of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, created to bring awareness to the anti-Black racism plaguing society after the death of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin. You have to be under a rock not to know this movement has spread across the country and gained series traction after the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police officers. Anyone saying different is a liar or just plain insensitive.
When the ad popped up in Atlanta, many were quick to tear into Bravo for their blatant disregard for the significance behind the movement and started to bombard the network for answers and an explanation. The network has put out a firm denouncement of the ads stating:
These posters were not created by or in any way affiliated with Bravo.
Andy Cohen ain’t crazy to greenlight that foolishness. But who did? According to Reality Tea, the culprit may be RHOA’s own Kenya! Say what? The site claims the company behind the ads reached out to them and stated:
We would like to start by apologizing for our involvement in the Black Wives Matter Bravo TV Real Housewives of Atlanta posters. This was never supposed to happen the way it did. We are part of a design team from Chicago that also works out of New York City. We were hired by who we believe was a representative of Ms. Kenya Moore in early December to design and print these posters.
We are deeply sorry for propagating social injustice and pain in America. We are coming out about this because it has conflicted with our morals as a multi-racial design team. Major corporations and celebrities continue to exploit our culture for economic gain and as designers need to begin to stand our ground.
So far, Kenya has’t responded to the allegations.
