Rumors of Toni Braxton’s retirement from the industry proved to be exaggerated. Singer/songwriter/producer Babyface, who was behind most of Braxton’s 90’s hits, convinced the singer turned reality star to go back in the studio. The result is “Love, Marriage and Divorce,” set to drop December 3. The single, “Hurt You” is out now. Braxton says that although she told several people, including “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” that she was set to leave music, Babyface convinced her to return.

He says:  “She can’t run away from who she is.”

She says: “I was really over it, though. I can’t deny it.”

On the new single, Braxton and Face sound like they easily found their 90’s groove. With R&B becoming increasingly pop (see MTV Awards 2013)  more and more Black R&B artists have become marginalized.  The success of this release should be an indicator that although there is a larger audience for pop-based R&B acts, there is still a strong, underserved audience for traditional R&B.
