Brian Williams will not return to his anchor position on Nightly News, several months after being suspended without pay, for exaggerating his role in a helicopter incident in Iraq, reports The New York Times

Lester Holt, who has been filling in for Williams, will take over for good. Williams is expected to move to a new role at MSNBC, most likely in a breaking-news capacity. Williams, before the controversy, was one of the country’s most respected broadcast journalists, so this downgrade must hurt.

This news follows NBC’s investigation of Williams over the last several months, where it was discovered that the former Nightly News anchor may have exaggerated or fabricated his reporting in about 10 to 12 instances.

Williams better thank his lucky stars that he’s still going to walk away from this with a job, even if it is a demotion.
