Tanneka Ragin talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about her 7-year-old daughter Marleigh, who has Leukemia. Marleigh is a St. Jude patient and both she and her mom have been at the hospital since December 2015. Known for their generosity and ground-breaking technology, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food.

“She had been sick for about three months prior. We were going back and forth to our pediatrician and our local ER. They didn’t know what was going on. Me being a mom, I knew something else was wrong. I continued to take her to different doctors until I got an answer. Her symptoms were progressing and the medications weren’t alleviating the problem. Our doctor at the ER performed several tests on Marleigh and said that her Leukemia markers were not normal. I knew of St. Jude. I knew how great they were. I knew if I had any chance of surviving, I knew that St. Jude was the best place to be,” Ragin said.

Patients are often referred to by a physician and generally have a disease currently under study and are eligible for a current clinical trial.

If you’d like to support the hospital’s efforts in increasing the child survival rate, the St. Jude Radio-thon is underway and is accepting donations by calling 1-800-411-9898.
