As a DJ, I’m into all kinds of music.  New, Old, very New, very Old it doesn’t matter.  One thing that catches my ear, is REAL music.  With R&B slowly on the rise I have followed Leela James, from my days of producing the Michael Baisden Show.  I always wondered if she would get the exposure she needed.  What better way to really step into the spot light with the soulful Anthony Hamilton.  burst onto the music scene in 2005 with her debut album A Change Is Gonna Come. The project garnered her award nominations in 2006 for Outstanding New Artist by the NAACP Image Awards and Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist of 2008 by the Soul Train Music Awards. James has since released three studio albums, including My Soul which reached #7 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart and #37 on the Billboard 200 chart. Leela James has woven the soul tradition into and around every corner of her creative identity. Deep within her gritty and powerful vocals are the echoes of Aretha Franklin, Mavis Staples, Gladys Knight, Etta James and other iconic divas of generations past. She’s been recognized for her extraordinary gifts as a vocalist, storyteller and keeper of the great soul tradition.  Her new album is not titled yet, but scheduled for early release 2014.  Be on the listen for the powerful force in such a little body.
