Cincinnati High School Graduate Makes History
Cincinnati Student Graduates High School And College At The Same Time

Making History: Walnut Hills Senior Earns High School Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree Simultaneously
In a remarkable first for Cincinnati Public Schools, Caden Elrod, a senior at Walnut Hills High School, has made history by becoming the district’s first student to graduate with both a high school diploma and a bachelor’s degree — all by the age of 18.
While most seniors are wrapping up final exams and preparing for prom, Elrod has already walked across the stage at the University of Cincinnati, earning a degree in mathematics and statistics. Balancing college coursework with high school traditions, Caden still found time for proms, sports, and everything that makes the high school experience special.
Elrod’s academic journey began early — incredibly early. He started taking college-level classes in sixth grade, driven by curiosity and a clear passion for learning. But he’s quick to share credit for his success, pointing to the unwavering support of his high school counselor, Renita Brooks, as a key part of his journey.
“My counselor really believed in me,” Elrod said. “She helped me map out a path that made this possible.”
Now, with a college degree and a high school diploma in hand, Elrod is headed for a future just as impressive as his past. He’s set to begin work in autonomous vehicle research for the U.S. Navy, exploring the cutting edge of technology and national defense.
But he’s not stopping there. Caden is considering a Ph.D. in machine learning or possibly even law school, showcasing both his analytical mind and his wide range of interests.
His historic achievement is not just a personal milestone — it’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent, opportunity, and support come together. Caden Elrod is more than a standout student — he’s an inspiration, a trailblazer, and a name to remember in the future of science, technology, and beyond.
