Kameron Mercer Brings Home Gold with Team USA
Among the standout talents representing USA Basketball at the 2025 FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup was Cincinnati’s own Kameron Mercer, who now returns home as a gold medalist.
Mercer was part of a dominant U.S. squad that went undefeated in the tournament, culminating in a commanding 108-71 victory over Canada in the final. The win secured Team USA’s ninth gold medal in the competition’s history and extended their all-time record to an incredible 49-0.
While stars like Nasir Anderson and CJ Rosser grabbed headlines with MVP performances and record-setting assists, players like Mercer provided crucial depth, energy, and team-first contributions that helped the squad thrive.
Every gold-medal run requires glue guys — those who embrace their roles, support teammates, and give everything on both ends of the floor. By all accounts, Mercer did just that.
“Kam brought intensity and unselfishness to every practice and game,” said a source close to the team. “He’s the kind of player every championship team needs.”
As he returns to Cincinnati, Mercer not only brings back a medal but also invaluable experience from competing at the highest level of international youth basketball. His journey is a reflection of both his personal hard work and the strength of grassroots basketball in the Queen City.
Cincinnati can be proud — one of its own is now part of USA Basketball history.
