Black Bear Spotted in Greenhills, Ohio: Authorities Urge Caution
Residents of Greenhills, Ohio, got a surprise visitor early Monday morning — a black bear was spotted sprinting through the neighborhood, prompting a swift response from local authorities and wildlife officials.
Greenhills police officers first observed the bear in an area known as The Commons, a popular community gathering spot. The officers quickly captured video footage of the bear, which has since been shared on social media, sparking both concern and curiosity among locals.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has since issued a public advisory, reminding residents not to approach or attempt to corner the bear. Instead, officials recommend making loud noises to encourage the animal to move along and avoid any human contact.
Following its run through The Commons, authorities believe the bear disappeared into the wooded area behind Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.
This sighting wasn’t the only bear encounter in the region. In a separate incident, a young bear was caught on video calmly strolling through a yard in East Price Hill, suggesting that multiple bears may be exploring the Cincinnati-area suburbs.
While black bears are native to Ohio, sightings remain relatively rare, especially in more developed neighborhoods. ODNR officials stress that these animals are usually just passing through and not looking for conflict — though it’s always best to keep your distance and secure any food sources or garbage that might attract wildlife.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and ask residents to report any additional sightings. In the meantime, Greenhills and East Price Hill residents are encouraged to stay alert and keep pets indoors until the bear activity subsides.
