Eddie Murphy Confirms He’s the New Inspector Clouseau in Upcoming Pink Panther Film

Comedy legend Eddie Murphy is stepping into some iconic—and hilariously clumsy—shoes. In a recent interview with NBC’s Al Roker, Murphy confirmed that he will star as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in the upcoming reboot of The Pink Panther franchise.

“Yeah, I’m the new Clouseau,” Murphy said with a grin, making it official.

Murphy, known for his brilliant comedic timing and wide range of characters, hinted that his take on Clouseau might bring a fresh cultural spin to the beloved character. While he didn’t give away too much about the film’s direction, he teased that Clouseau may have a French or Haitian background, but emphasized:

“He’s Black, for sure.”

This casting is a bold and refreshing move for the franchise, which has seen memorable turns from Peter Sellers, Steve Martin, and others over the decades. With Murphy’s unique energy and seasoned comedic chops, fans are already anticipating a wildly entertaining revival of the bumbling detective.

In the meantime, Murphy will hit screens in another high-energy role with the upcoming action-comedy The Pickup. He stars alongside Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson in a story about an armored truck heist gone completely off the rails. The ensemble cast also features Eva Longoria, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Jack Kesy, Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch, and Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i. The film is directed and produced by Tim Story, known for Ride Along and Barbershop.

Whether he’s chasing crooks or cracking up audiences, Eddie Murphy’s return to the spotlight is proving to be just as iconic as ever. And with Pink Panther on the horizon, it looks like another classic is about to get a major Murphy-style upgrade.
