The GOP race for the White House has reached an all-time low: front-runner Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas are now making the campaign about their wives.

And it’s ugly.

“Donald, you’re a sniveling coward and leave Heidi the hell alone,” Cruz told reporters Thursday.

Trump and Cruz – through Twitter — are trading barbs about their wives. It all started with a Super PAC ad featuring Trump’s wife nude and then Trump threatening to “spill the beans” on Cruz’s wife.

It’s unclear what “beans” Trump is talking about, but the Super PAC ad, shows former model Melania Trump nude with a caption saying, “Meet Melania Trump. Your next first lady. Or, you could support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”

Trump accused Cruz of approving the ad. Cruz denies it.

Sound personal? Yes, it is.

But it’s also ridiculous. Neither Trump or Cruz are acting presidential and neither candidate can claim the moral high ground.

When did wives become fair game during presidential campaigns? And when did it become business as usual to go after the wives of candidates?

This Republican campaign is a complete mess. Serious issues have taken a back seat to a feud about wives. Even GOP voters should be angered and outraged.
