The popular hair trend started for a reason you won’t believe.

Salt-N-Pepa spilled the tea on that famous asymmetrical haircut that made waves during the late 80s. We’re sure you have a sister or a girlfriend who tried to rock that crazy style (or you tried it yourself….don’t front.)

Pepa had to admit that the trend was actually a tragic hair mistake.

In an episode of the Steve Harvey Show, the rapper opened up about the cut.

“My sister just got her beautician’s license and permed my hair and burned it off–and I had to shave the side,” she confessed.

“I had to pencil it in with eyeliner to cover the bald spot,” she continued.

OOP! She lost her edges trying to be edgy!

“We want to apologize to all the females who followed us and did that,” the crew concluded.

Apology accepted.
