Cincinnati Public Schools to Reopen Thursday Despite Freezing Temperatures

Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) will be reopening their doors on Thursday, January 11, for students and staff, despite the forecasted low temperatures and a cold weather advisory for the region. While Hamilton County is expected to experience dangerously cold wind chills, ranging from -5 to -12 degrees, CPS has decided to proceed with classes as scheduled.

This decision comes after the district had already closed for winter break and inclement weather earlier this week, including Wednesday’s closure due to the extreme cold. While some districts in the area, such as Boone County Schools and Kenton County School District, have opted to remain closed on Thursday due to unsafe road conditions and difficulties with bus travel, Cincinnati Public Schools is moving forward with reopening.

The district’s decision comes after carefully considering student safety, weather conditions, and logistical challenges. CPS encourages families to take extra precautions to ensure their children are dressed warmly, particularly for those who may have to wait for buses or walk to school. It’s important for students to layer up with hats, gloves, scarves, and other warm clothing to stay safe in the bitter cold.

In the wake of such extreme weather, CPS will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if further adjustments are needed. Families are advised to stay informed through the district’s website, social media channels, and local news outlets for any last-minute changes.

As the region braces for another cold day, the Cincinnati Public Schools community is reminded to stay safe, stay warm, and remain prepared for the winter weather conditions that are expected to persist in the coming days.
