Cincinnati city officials are stepping up once again to tackle the issue of summer gun violence head-on. Mayor Aftab Pureval, City Manager Sheryl Long, and Police Chief Teresa Theetge are scheduled to hold a press conference to outline the city’s strategic efforts for the upcoming summer season. The event will take place at 10 a.m. at the Criminal Investigation Section office in Cincinnati.

This summer’s strategy continues the city’s proactive, community-focused approach to violence prevention. In recent years, Cincinnati has implemented a series of youth engagement and community safety initiatives aimed at curbing violent crime during the warmer months—when incidents have historically seen an uptick.

Among those initiatives, reopening all 24 city pools last summer was a major step in providing safe, supervised spaces for recreation. Programs like “Rec @ Nite” have also played a critical role, bringing structured evening activities to neighborhoods such as Avondale and the West End. These efforts not only offer positive alternatives for youth but also help build trust between communities and local institutions.

City leaders say these programs are already making a difference, and the recognition they’ve received—including community impact awards—underscores their value. As the city heads into another summer, officials are expected to build on this momentum by expanding or refining their approach.

With the presence of top city officials at the press conference, Cincinnati is making it clear: reducing gun violence remains a top priority. The community will be watching closely for updates and renewed commitments to keeping neighborhoods safe and vibrant all summer long.
