Nick Cannon insists that he just wants his soon-to-be ex-wife Mariah Carey to be happy. The only problem is, since the two filed for divorce in 2014, their situation has remained in limbo. Not over property, or custody of their two children, but simply because Cannon has repeatedly declined to sign the paperwork that would make their divorce official. After reports surfaced that Mimi was growing increasingly furious over her ex’s delays (she needs them papers signed so she can go ahead and marry her billionaire boo James Packer, of course), Nick is breaking his silence about their state of affairs.
He told Extra, “There’s nothing to tell…me and Mariah get along great, and it’s a process, nobody is holding nothing up. Why would I hold it up? I want her to be happy.” Adding, “She is such a beautiful spirit, and we put the kids first.”
This announcement came just days after TMZ reported that Cannon was the only thing getting in the way of the iconic diva marrying her new man. The entertainment site cited sources that claimed that Cannon “still loves Mariah and doesn’t want to officially let her go.”
This is a far cry from the public front Nick has been putting on. When news broke that Carey and Packer were planning on tying the knot (which they ideally want to do within the year) Cannon was quick to congratulate the two by tweeting his blessing, and even joking about it on Instagram:
Seems like Cannon is saying all the right things, but — so far — can’t seem to make it official.
