CINCINNATI –  A man charged with killing his 11-year-old daughter was given a $500,000 bond at his arraignment Monday morning.

Officers received a call of a shooting at 800 Delhi Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday morning. Once on the scene, first responders found Shanti Lanza shot in the chest.

Doctors pronounced her dead a short time later at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

The father, Deandre Kelley, 34, according to neighbors and Shanti’s older sister, arrived home shortly after 2 a.m., intoxicated to the point his girlfriend, Shanti’s mother, forced him out of the house. It was in front of the home he allegedly fired four shots in the air.

“From what we’re being told, he went outside, stood in the middle of the street, shot up in the air — I guess when the bullet went up in the air, it came back down in the house and hit her in the chest,” said Vince Lanza, Shanti’s uncle.

Without it being clear Kelley knew what transpired, he fled the scene, sparking a search for him that ended at about 10 a.m. Sunday, when he was arrested for reckless homicide and taken to the Hamilton County Jail.

A fund to help with funeral expenses for Shanti has been set up at local Fifth Third Bank branches under the name “Shanti Lanza Fund.”
