Suge Knight Settles In 2015 Wrongful Death Lawsuit For $1.5M

Suge Knight Agrees to $1.5M Settlement in Wrongful Death Case of Terry Carter
After nearly a decade of legal battles and emotional pain, the wrongful death case involving music mogul Suge Knight and the family of Terry Carter has finally come to a close. Knight has agreed to pay $1.5 million to Carter’s widow and two daughters, bringing long-awaited—though bittersweet—closure to a tragedy that unfolded on January 29, 2015.
The fatal incident occurred outside a Compton burger stand, where Knight ran over Carter with his truck in a widely publicized confrontation. Though Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter in connection with the case, this civil settlement now brings an end to the wrongful death lawsuit that had been set to resume with jury selection on April 30.
Under the agreement, each member of Carter’s immediate family—his widow and two daughters—will receive $500,000. While the monetary settlement offers some legal resolution, the emotional scars remain raw.
“Terry was a friend of mine,” Knight said in a statement. “It definitely wasn’t done intentionally.” He added that he hopes the settlement will help spare the Carter family any further pain.
For Carter’s widow, however, closure remains elusive. “It’s been very, very difficult,” she said, reflecting on life without her husband. “I’ve been in pain ever since January 29, 2015. I haven’t had one good day.”
Despite her dissatisfaction with the settlement, she made the difficult decision to walk away from a retrial, citing her desire to avoid what she described as Knight’s courtroom theatrics. “I don’t want to give him another opportunity to put on a clown show and act like a b__ch. Maybe somebody will shank him in jail,” she stated bluntly.
The settlement may have ended the legal battle, but the emotional toll of Terry Carter’s death continues to weigh heavily on his loved ones. This case serves as yet another reminder of how sudden violence can leave families broken and forever changed.
