(RNN) –  It’s not Thanksgiving until you’ve watched one of the funniest moments in the history of TV, which originally aired in 1978.

For those too young to have seen Saturday Night Fever in a first-run theater, here’s the background:

WKRP in Cincinnati was an offbeat sitcom about a hapless Midwestern radio station and its staff of misfits. It became one of the most unlikely hits of that season, and it found new fans beyond its four-year run when YouTube came along and immortalized the Thanksgiving episode, Turkeys Away.

The affable but clueless station manager, Arthur Carlson, has a stupid idea for a holiday promotion, but everybody goes along with it because he’s, you know, the boss. He decides to throw live turkeys out of a helicopter over a shopping mall while bewildered newsman Les Nessman reports live on the air.

As the birds plunge to earth, hysteria grips the Pinedale Mall parking lot. Les dutifully describes the scene echoing the famous 1937 report of the Hindenberg disaster.
